Bahamas

The seven hundred islands of the Bahamas sit fifty miles off the coast of Florida and stretch for 500 miles into the Atlantic Ocean. The population of the Bahamas is approximately 250,000.

It is said the Christopher Columbus' first landing was on San Salvador in the Bahamas in October 1492. He named the area 'Baha Mar' meaning shallow seas.
