Onboard the fast ferry from Spanish Wells to Harbour Island

The ferry transits the Devil's Backbone, a notorious stretch of coral heads along the north coast of Eleuthera. Private boats are recommended to take a local pilot through this route and only in clear weather. The ferry does it at 35 knots on the edge of the surf.

Pink Sands Resort on the east coast of Harbour Island

This exclusive resort has a flavour of Java in its decor. It is named after the pink sand beach that it overlooks on the Atlantic side.

Pink sand beach on the east side of Harbour Island

Harbour Island is renowned for its pink sand beach which stretches for miles on the Atlantic coast. This pink hue is caused by a predominance of pink coral in the sand grains.

A large shady tree in Dumore Town

This tree on a street corner has been adorned over the years by messages, jokes, psalms and other words of wisdom and is a local meeting place.
